Black Magic
In the Arabic language, black magic is referred to as sihr which means ‘a thing that misguides. Or shows something to be different than what it actually is.’ Sihr is an action through which the practitioner; the witch, draws closer to the shayateen and seeks their help.
The word sihr applies to everything the cause of which is hidden and everything that happens through deceit or concealment. Witchcraft is a profession that makes use of sihr and the witch uses it to spread discord between man and wife, hatred where love exists, and to convert health into sickness.
Allah says in The Glorious Quran about protection from black magic:
Surah Al –Araaf verse no 116
He said, “Throw,” and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic.
Surah Al – Baqarah 2-102
They ˹instead˺ followed the magic promoted by the devils during the reign of Solomon. Never did Solomon disbelieve, rather the devils disbelieve. They taught magic to the people, along with what had been revealed to the two angels, Hârût and Mârût, in Babylon.1 The two angels never taught anyone without saying, “We are only a test for you, so do not abandon ˹your˺ faith.” Yet people learned ˹magic˺ that caused a rift ˹even˺ between husband and wife; although their magic could not harm anyone except by Allah’s Will. They learned what harmed them and did not benefit them—although they already knew that whoever buys into magic would have no share in the Hereafter. Miserable indeed was the price for which they sold their souls if only they knew!
Al Yunus 10:81-82
When they did, Moses said, “What you have produced is mere magic, Allah will surely make it useless, for Allah certainly does not set right the work of the corruptors.
And Allah establishes the truth by His Words—even to the dismay of the wicked.”
Al-Falaq 113:1 -5
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
From the evil of that which He created
And from the evil of darkness when it settles
And from the evil of the blowers in knots
And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”

It was narrated that Aisha RA said, the messenger of Allah (SAW) was bewitched by a man called Labid Ibn Assam, and the messenger (SAW) began to imagine that he had done something when he actually had not. One night after he had invoked Allah Taala for long time, he said to me; “O Aisha, I feel that Allah has inspired me as to how to cure myself. Two men came before me, one of them sat near my head and the other near my feet. Then one of them said to the other; ‘What is hurting this man?’ he said ‘He is bewitched.’ He said ‘Who bewitched him’? To which the other man replied; ‘Labid Ibn Assam’. He said, ‘With what?’ the other man replied; ‘With a comb, the hair gathered in it and the outer skin of a pollen of a male date palm.’ He inquired; ‘Where is it?’ to which the other responded; ’In the well of Dharwaan.’ So the messenger of Allah went there with some of his companions and when he came back he said, ‘O Aisha, it was as if the well water is an infusion of henna leaves and the heads of its date palms are like the heads of its devils.’ I said; O Messenger of Allah (SAW), will you not take it out? He (SAW) said; ‘Allah has healed me and I do not want evil to spread amongst my people. And he ordered that the well be filled in.’
It was at this occasion, that the Al Muawwizataan; Surah Al Falaq, and Surah Al Nas were revealed to the messenger (SAW) as an antidote to black magic. (read more in 7. Authentically treating black magic)
